The state of things in the last year.
2020 was a tough year and it hit everybody in some way or another and Supanik is no exception. I feel really guilty about having to raise my prices this year when I have always been commited to low and fair prices. The reality is that things happened due to the China-virus situation that really dealt us a hard blow here at Supanik.
Unfortunately, several shipments of inbound inventory from Czech Republic were lost in transit. Losing many thousands of dollars of inventory with no insurance to cover it is a hard blow to take. Couple this with RF-10 radio sets that after testing prove to be non-working and as a result are non-sellable. Shipping times were ridiculous, with my normal shipping time from Prague being 20 days, and in the year 2020 the average shipping transit time being 120 days.
I really wanted to maintain my inventory better than I did this past year; I know I ran out of a lot of hot items. I wanted to get more and replenish the inventory, but due to the shipping situation, I could not afford to continually keep sending thousands of dollars into that black hole, knowing that probably half of that inventory will never arrive and will be lost in transit.
Hopefully 2021 will be a better year. When I reopen the web-store in July, hopefully all the shipping delays and problems will be over and I can rebuild my inventory. I intend to rebuild my inventory so that I can offer the great selection that I am known for and hopefully once the shipping situation is back to normal, I can bring all the prices back down.
Honestly though, I hope this is not the case, but I fear that 2021 may be the last year that I will be able to offer vz.58 parts. Between the political climate of impending internet gun-parts sales bans and the fact that the supply of old vz.58 parts is actually running out, the future looks uncertain. Pretty much all of this stuff was made before 1986 and has just been sitting in warehouses; well, those warehouses are starting to get empty.
There are a few hot items that I just cannot get any more such as magazines, wood bayonets, new wood furniture sets and military muzzle brakes, but there still are a lot of things that I can get. I will try hard to get the best of what is still out there.
So anyway, with one week to go before my shop closes for the season, I wanted to give all of my great customers an update on the situation and also to say thank you for your support. I hope that 2021 will be a better year for all of us and I look forward to coming back strong with replenished inventory and hopefully some new hot products to offer.
Stay safe and keep shooting!
Regards,
Chris
